- Polished sample with a metallic luster and various polychromatic sulfide bands. Sample measures 7 x 5 x 1 cm and weighs 85 grams. Schalenblende forms through the rapid crystallization of a colloidal sulfide gel at unusually low temperatures. This process creates alternating bands and botryoidal surfaces (similar to grape clusters) with colors ranging from cream, brown, silver, and gold.
